Top restaurants in the world 2024
Revealed at an awards ceremony hosted by Wynn Las Vegas, The World’s Best Restaurant—and The Best Restaurant in Europe—is situated in Barcelona, Spain.
Disfrutar, led by three remarkable chefs, secured the number one spot on the 2024 World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. The restaurant’s name, translating to “Enjoy,” offers a glimpse of what patrons can anticipate.
Interestingly, the trio of chefs—Oriol Castro, Mateu Casañas, and Eduard Xatruch—were part of the senior creative team at El Bulli. For context, El Bulli topped the very first World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2002 and continued to achieve the number one position in 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009.
It’s no surprise that when Chefs Oriol, Casañas, and Xatruch opened Disfrutar in 2014, the culinary world had high expectations. By 2018, the three chefs had guided their restaurant to debut at number 18 on the 2018 World’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking. Just a year later, Disfrutar climbed to number nine on the list.
For our Canadian and American readers, there are two updates. First, no Canadian restaurants made it to this year’s top 50 list. Even when considering the extended list, ranking 51 to 100, Canada is absent.
Second, only two American restaurants are among the 50 best in the world: one in New York and the other in California. The expanded list includes three more American restaurants—two in New York City and one in Chicago. Notably, a restaurant in Los Angeles, Kato, received the Resy One To Watch Award 2024.
In contrast, Mexico City boasts three restaurants in the top 50, as do Lima and Tokyo. Paris and Bangkok each have four restaurants, securing the most spots.
Congratulations to Disfrutar, and cheers to every restaurant team that earned their place on the 2024 list!

- Uliassi:
Mauro Uliassi opened his first restaurant, "Pizzaria da Mauro," in 1986 but quickly moved on from it. By 1990, after gaining experience across Italy and Europe and spending 15 years teaching at the “Scuola Alberghiera di stato di Senigallia,” he teamed up with his sister Catia to establish the “Uliassi” restaurant.
As a speaker at prestigious international gastronomy conferences, he has shared his culinary expertise in many parts of the world.
Uliassi's cuisine, both contemporary and straightforward, is deeply rooted in the traditions of the Adriatic coast while playfully incorporating diverse influences. Drawing inspiration primarily from the sea's fragrances, it also explores the realm of game. Each year, the Lab introduces 10 new dishes, which complement the classic journey of their historical offerings. The kitchen utilizes the latest techniques and technologies available today. It is a constantly evolving culinary style, enriched further by travels and the diverse cultures of other countries.
"La Colombe Coffee Roasters, originally known as La Colombe Torrefaction, is a coffee roasting and retail company based in Philadelphia. Established in 1994, the company operates cafés in cities such as Philadelphia, New York, Chicago, Boston, and Washington D.C. In 2023, Chobani acquired La Colombe for $900 million.
La Colombe is a notable example of third-wave coffee culture and has been recognized with a BevNet award for 'Rising Star'."
3. Hiša Franko:
Chef Ana Roš gained international recognition when she was named The World’s Best Female Chef in 2017 and featured in an episode of the popular Netflix series, Chef’s Table. You might recall her name from these accomplishments. Her restaurant, Hiša Franko, pronounced "Hi-sha Franko," is nestled in the picturesque Soča Valley, attracting visitors from around the globe to Slovenia.
To celebrate the restaurant's 50th anniversary in 2023, Roš and her team have created a unique tasting menu called '50 Shades of Life.' This menu, true to their style, highlights seasonal ingredients. It features dishes like white asparagus paired with smoked egg dip and walnuts, as well as two-day-aged trout, barbecued and served with a brown butter fish sauce and horseradish. Notable favorites such as the chef’s well-known corn beignet with fermented cottage cheese and a potato dish baked in a summer hay crust are also part of the experience.
4. Arpège:
"Arpège, a French restaurant located in Paris, holds 3 Michelin stars. Alain Passard, the head chef, purchased the establishment from Alain Senderens in 1986, when it was formerly known as L'Archestrate.
In its debut year, Arpège was awarded one Michelin star, quickly followed by a second. By 1996, it had secured its third Michelin star, which it has retained ever since.
In 2018, it was ranked as the 8th best restaurant globally by The World's 50 Best Restaurants. The restaurant is also well-regarded for its vegetarian and vegan-friendly menu options."
5. SingleThread:
In 2014, Kyle and Katina Connaughton purchased a property in Sonoma County, California, aiming to establish a five-acre farm, restaurant, and inn situated in downtown Healdsburg. Over the next two years, they diligently worked on cultivating the farm, growing vegetables, flowers, olive trees, and fruit orchards, while also tending to beehives, chickens, and cattle. Their efforts culminated in the opening of SingleThread in December 2016, where they also introduced a meticulously crafted menu for the restaurant.
SingleThread's menu is known for its fusion of Japanese culinary influences and farm-to-table ingredients. Diners can enjoy an 11-course dinner with options tailored to vegetarians, pescatarians, and omnivores, with the dishes varying nightly.
Eater recognized SingleThread as one of the most beautiful restaurants of 2016, and the restaurant's design, created by AvroKO, earned a James Beard Award in 2017. Additionally, the San Francisco Chronicle awarded the restaurant a four-star rating. In 2018, The World's 50 Best Restaurants listed SingleThread as "One To Watch." The Michelin Guide also acknowledged SingleThread's excellence, awarding it two stars in 2018 and elevating it to three stars in 2019. Out of the 13 three-star restaurants in the United States, six are located in California.
